Realm of the Tiger and CAT_Page_1The Realm of the Tiger is a five-day-four-night program for zookeepers who work with jungle cats and other rainforest mammals.

The program has been designed by the Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT) to supplement existing knowledge of this big cat and its prey by providing insight and understanding into the tiger’s habitat and conservation needs by immersing participants in the forests, hills and streams of one of the world’s oldest rainforests. It will provide an opportunity to understand first-hand the threats facing tigers and their prey from forest fragmentation and snaring driven by the criminal trade in wildlife parts. Participants will join anti-poaching surveillance walks in the last wildlife corridor linking the main mountain range and the Taman Negara National Park to search out snares and traps and document tiger and tiger prey signs such as tracks, scratch posts, scats, and tiger kill. You will set and
check remote cameras on game trails.
Location:
Yu River Wildlife Corridor, which connects the two largest tiger ranges in Malaysia
Activities:
1. Anti-poaching surveillance walks
2. Jungle trekking and camping
3. Animal tracking and camera trapping
4. Exchange with local aboriginal people

Outcome:
Enhancement of the education and entertainment values for future zoo visitors
